Match Report 1st XV v Menai Bridge

Rhyl and DistrictRFC 1st XV 12 -13 Menai Bridge RFC 1st XV

It was a classic game of two halves at the Waen on Saturday as the Dragons took on a Menai Bridge side bolstered by several loan signings.  Rhyl played with a strong wind at their backs in the first half and despite playing much of the half in opposition territory never managed to convert possession into points. It was the visitors who struck first with a drive near the Rhyl line resulting in a try.  The visitors were playing the conditions better with a tight controlled game.  Rhyl, missing several key players through injury, battled hard to get back into the game and after some good back interplay, wing Damon Price, ran over for a converted try to leave the half time score at 7 points to 5.

The second period saw the visitors use the conditions well to camp in the home 22 and only some fantastic defence saw the visitors restricted to one further try.  The Dragons then worked their way back into the game with some controlled forward play into the wind which resulted in a try, superbly finished in the corner, for wing Jack Hughes to restore a two-point lead.  The rest of the game was spent on the Rhyl sides line with some incredibly committed defence meaning that it took a penalty with the last kick of the game to give the visitors a one point victory.

Rhyl’s management were upbeat after the game after a committed and solid performance from Rhyl’s young side which bodes well as the league moves into the end of season split.
