Rhyl 15-16 Welspool

Rhyl were beaten by the solitary point in a game they were expected to win after defeating Welshpool 41-0 earlier in the season at Welshpool.  The visitors were off to an excellent start when their fullback converted a penalty from 55metres in the first few minutes helped by the strong wind blowing down the Tynewydd Field pitch. They followed this with an unconverted try under the posts and a successful penalty to lead 11-0. Rhyl fought back against the wind with try’s from Reeve Wright and the first of full back Tom Jones brace to leave the score 10-11 at the break.
With the wind behind them Rhyl spent most of the second half in the Welshpool 22 and were finally rewarded withTom Jones going over in the corner. In a rare visit into the Rhyl half a clearance kick by Tom Jones was charged down and Welshpool scored the try to give them a one point advantage. Rhyl pressed for the score to give them the win but they missed two penalties due to miss reading the power of the wind. The result leaves Rhyl 5th in the league with a two week break for the internationals before they welcome Bangor to Tynewydd Field.
The second ream entertained a strong Wrexham team and were beaten 55-7.
A new project for Rhyl and district starts on Monday with the first training session of a women’s team for some years. Training starts at 7pm and any new players are welcome.
