<CAN WALES TOPPLE WORLD N.O. 1 ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND IN THE WHEELCHAIR TRI-NATIONS?>

<LIVERPOOL>, <21 MAY 2017> -  England Rugby Union have just won the RBS Six Nations with a game to spare and nearly completed the Grand Slam; but can Wales Wheelchair 7’s (W7s) win the Wheelchair 7s Tri-nations.

Wheelchair 7’s is not the Paralympic version of Wheelchair Rugby, but the Union Version.  Wheelchair 7’s is played on a court twice the size, played with an Oval Ball and is played over 80 minutes.  The sport has Lineouts & even Scrums.  Points are awarded for a try scored, conversion and penalties gained; you can even score a drop goal.

England are the current World No.1 after convincing wins in Paris and London in 2015 & 2016 over the then top dogs France (beating France 117-17, in 2016).  Wales will now take on Scotland and World Number 1 England, in a Round Robin event in Liverpool on Sunday 21st May.

This event will be happening at Toxteth’s FireFit Hub(Liverpool), following a successful youth training programme and partnership.  The programme showcased this sport along with Wheelchair Handball & Wheelchair Basketball.  It was run by head coach of England W7 & Liverpool Lions WRC Martin Beddis, along with Wales W7 player Stuart Williams.  The project was designed to give the FireFit Hub kids a taste of wheelchair inclusive sports.

‘The project proved a massive hit with the members’ says Lisa Smith, Youth Manager at FireFit Hub.  ‘Several members will be included at the event to take part in the matches, which I am sure will be a massive opportunity to experience sports at an elite level’.

The Event is open to the public to come along and support the team’s.  It is taking place on Sunday 21st May at FireFit Hub, Upper Warwick St, Liverpool, L8 8HD.  Door open at 12:00pm, with kick-off at 12:30pm.  Food & refreshments will be available to purchase onsite.  The Event is FREE; however collection buckets will also be onsite.
