Bangor RFC 18-42 Rhyl And District RFC

Rhyl made the short journey to Bangor on Saturday for the second round of the WRU bowl and came away with a convincing win.  The dragons made an indifferent start in poor conditions and some sloppy play and poor discipline saw Bangor take an early 6 point lead with two penalty's.  Gradually however Rhyls pack began to gain the upper hand and plentiful possession allowed the young Rhyl side to put together some good phases of play which resulted in the impressive Jason Blackmore scoring under the posts.  A penalty from full back Ben Syme gave Rhyl  10 points to 6 half time lead, however the second half saw the dragons ambition and expansive game plan pay dividends with further scores from Matt Hession and a great interception and 50 metre solo effort from the tireless Greg Proffitt.  Despite two trys of their own from the home side who competed gamely throughout, Rhyl continued to impress and led by man of the match number 8 Tom Williams ran in late scores from Callum Morris, Tom Jones and a pleasing last try for the returning Jack Hughes after a long term injury lay off.
This performance, along with  Rhyls rejuvenated second team performances will give Head Coach Dan Jones some welcome selection headaches ahead of next weeks visit of Welshpool and Llangefni to the Waen.
