Llangollen 31 -19 Rhyl

Rhyl started the game strong scoring within the first 5mins, after a well worked driving line out the ball bobbled out and was pounced on by George Cliff. Ben Syme making it 7 -0 with the conversion. Rhyl had a line out in our own 22 having won the previous 3 line outs at front and middle the back ball was chosen with  errors giving Llangollen their first attacking scrum in the Rhyl 22. Using their big centre they crashed up in midfield and their forwards attacked around the corners, lazy defence from the Rhyl pack in not getting to the far side resulted in Llangollen scoring making it 7 -5. Rhyl continued to look dangerous whenever we got into attacking positions with a lovely try coming from a scrum, Tom Williams picked up, popped it to the man of the match Richie Williams who fed Ben Ethan Woodfine ran the short line holding their midfield and Ben Syme hit Jack Hughes out the back and his powerful running enabled him score to the right of the posts 12 5.

Rhyl scored by far their most attractive try of the season with a lovely cross field kick from Ben Syme , Reeve Wright catching the ball roughly 15m in field and popping back inside to Tom Williams and with just the full back to beat fed the ball to Ethan Woodfine who scored under the sticks 19 5. Rhyl seemed to be coasting towards the bonus point. Errors in the Rhyl’s scrum resulted in a penalty for Llangollen taken quick and the Rhyl pack was caught out and instead of getting back 10m saw Llangollen scrum half take a quick tap moving the ball quickly along the line and scoring far left of the post.
Half time score 10 19

With a gale force wind behind them Rhyl kicked off in to the top corner Llangollen kicked long, with errors by Rhyl resulting in a Llangollen scrum on the Rhyl 10m line. Llangollen managed to drive the smaller Rhyl pack back to their own 5m line where a penalty was conceded for the front row popping up. They went for another scrum and scored just to the right of the post making it 17 19.  Poor restart saw  Llangollen awarded a scrum on half way.  Llangollen number 8 picked up and with Rhyl back row slow to react, Llangollen number 12 went over to score. Llangollen added a further try and conversion to end up with their first win of the season
