Bethesda 17 - 62 Rhyl
Rhyl U15's travelled to Bethesda for their first game of the season, the home side were the better team in the early stages and scored an early try against a poor and disorganised Rhyl. Rhyl responded quickly with a try of their own but continued to be second best at the breakdowns and lineouts and couldn't quite get going. Rhyl gained confidence from their scrum which saw them keep 100% of their own and turned over about 75%. Rhyl's confidence began to flow through the team and slowly began to make better decisions when carrying the ball resulting in few more tries before the break going in at half time leading 5 - 24. Rhyl came out strong in second half where the forwards began to perform better as a pack considering Hooker Aled Jones battled on through illness with some excelent carries from Connor McKenna which resulted in him scoring 2 tries, also excellent carries from James Jackson and Chad Fisher. Kai Wilson at 9 ran the ball much more from the breakdowns in the 2nd half which had a positive effect on Rhyl's backline all reading each others movement and playing a deeper line creating more space ending in another 6 tries . Throughout the match Rhyl players lent themselves to the home side due to short numbers and injuries Keegan, Cornell and Owen RJ took it in turns to field for Bethesda and all had confident performances with the newer adidtions to the team in Keegan and Cornell improving every time they step on the pitch. Every player had excellent individual performances but MOTM went to Harrison Evans for an outstanding performance all round and listening to advice which paid off with 2 assists and a try of his own. Try scorers were Hari Owen (1) Callum Gardner (2 + 5 conversions) Connor McKenna (2) George Jones (2) Toby Millar (1) Christian Hone (1) Harrison Evans (1) Well Done to everyone today, a good start to the season but tougher tests to come and defensive work to do.
